I Remember

I remember befriending a disabled boy named Andy when I was in kindergarten. I’m unsure if I was ever told what his disability was but he had a trach tube and couldn’t speak very well. I remember he had an aide who would clean his tube out with a small briefcase-like portable machine. I remember playing with him once or twice outside school and sometimes I wonder where he is and how he’s doing.

I remember the art teacher at my elementary school in New York building massive paper sculptures in the entrance hallway to the building. She once had a giant garfield the cat scupture that would greet you as you entered the building.

I remember the first time I rode in a diesel-fueled car.
